Bartholomew was a member of a group of aliens who planned to use explosives to destroy the whole of Athens. In his attempt to thwart their efforts, the Tenth Doctor managed to use June, a human, to scare them away. Bartholomew and his other alien counterparts seemed to highly fear humans.
