Records suggest that Charlie Smith has been living on Earth since early September 2016. Originally from the planet Rhodia, Charlie was the heir to the throne, son of the King and Queen, and performing all usual duties of Rhodian Royalty. He and the terrorist Andrea Quill were rescued from the obliterated planet following a devastating attack on their species by the Shadow Kin. Charlie is the last remaining Rhodian and Andrea is thought to be the last remaining Quill. The two species have a long history of combat and civil war, and are known to be arch enemies.

Charlie has been studying at Coal Hill Academy as an A-Level student since being brought to Earth by the saviour known to him and other students as 'The Doctor'. It is thought that Charlie and fellow Coal Hill Students Ram Singh, April MacLean, Tanya Adeola and Matteusz Andrzejewski have been entrusted by The Doctor to keep any alien threats to the school at bay, under the guidance of Andrea Quill.
