Matthews was a soldier serving under Group Captain Ian Gilmore of the Intrusion Countermeasures Group during the Shoreditch Incident in 1963. He was shot and killed by a Dalek while at the junkyard at 76 Totter's Lane. (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks)
