Dawson was a soldier in the British Army. He took part in the fight against the Great Intelligence and its robot Yeti in the London Underground.
While attempting to get to the Second Doctor's TARDIS, Dawson, along with most of the other soldiers, were killed by the Yeti. (TV: The Web of Fear)

Dawson is only named once on-screen, by Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart in episode four. The actor who played Dawson went uncredited for the role.
