The sun filters were on the space station Platform One to shield it and its occupants from the heat of the dying Sun. While the emissaries were witnessing the planet Earth, Cassandra used metal spider robots to sabotage the sun filters, along with the station's force field, in order to make it look like a hostage situation, killing everyone there and gaining money from the ransom.
