Ferutu
The Ferutu are a mysterious race from an alternate universe. They invoked runes and magic to modify time itself.
History
The Ferutu came from an alternate timeline in which Gallifrey was destroyed shortly after Omega's mission to Qqaba by the return of the Machine, laden with fusion bombs. Without the Time Lords, the Ferutu took their place as the guardians of the Web of Time; unlike the Time Lords, who were content to observe and only interceded against major threats to the integrity of space-time, the Ferutu actively modified the universe to reflect their wishes. The Doctor briefly visited their universe, and declared it to be a utopia.
They were able to enter our timelime at the point at which the Machine departed, a remote colony of the Earth Empire. When the Machine failed to destroy Gallifrey, their timeline collapsed, except for a small number of prisoners shielded from the effects of the paradox.
Physical Characteristics
Ferutu are generally human in appearance, but completely hairless, including a lack of eyelashes. They had more angular features than most Near-Humans. They typically dressed in long black cloaks and high-collared tunics.
Abilities
The power of the Ferutu lies in their ability to slow, accelerate, stop, and manipulate time. They are nearly invincible in most forms of combat; they can simply freeze their opponents and strike with impunity. They also may choose to accelerate a pocket of time around foes, causing them to die of old age.
They can also exist outside of cause and effect, allowing them to reshape history at will.
The Ferutu are capable of powerful telekinesis, allowing them to hover over the ground, and kill with a gesture. They can also pass through solid matter.
They invoke their powers through the usage of runes. The amount of power they can exert correlates to the number of Ferutu invoking the runes. It is unclear whether their powers are based on magic, or some form of technology so old and advanced enough as to merely appear magical.
The runes are also the source of their only apparent weakness; they are vulnerable to those same runes, when used properly.
- The Doctor was able to employ chalk circles as barriers against the Ferutu, much as he did in DW: Battlefield; it is unclear if the Ferutu are from the same alternate universe, or just one with similar laws.
