The Thing was a film involving underground tunnels, in which, according to Bill Potts, "everybody dies". (TV: Empress of Mars) It was directed by John Carpenter.[source needed]
Bill thought the Twelfth Doctor would enjoy this film, and it came to mind when they explored underground tunnels on Mars. Though the Doctor in his twelfth incarnation seemed to have never heard of The Thing, (TV: Empress of Mars) the Eleventh Doctor referred to the film as he and Amy Pond approached the deserted Arctic Geological Survey Base in Zebra Bay.
