Forum:Why do prefixes link as they do: revisited
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.
The prefix pages are all but empty, having a single line saying something like "DW is a prefix for the Doctor Who productions"
How about we get rid of that all together, and if anyone clicks on DW or BFA, they are automatic re-directs to the appropriate page.
As it is, the prefixes are silly. They've helped in answering my question "What does FP" stand for? Faction Paradox. But I would've gotten that just as clearly if FP re-directed to me the Faction Paradox page.
Is there a reason for keeping them that I'm not aware of?--TheOmnius 07:45, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think this topic has come up before see Forum:Why do prefixes link as they do?, and reading over my response there it seemed my intention to go and fix the problem of prefix pages not having links out to various bits of the wiki, something I still haven't done.
- It's more about logical progression having this extra step in between lets us lay out the information logically as several of the prefixes are for two or more things. --Tangerineduel 13:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Resurrecting an old topic...
Two things that might be helpful with prefixes:
- A more prominent link to the Tardis:List of prefixes page; for example, on the Recent Changes page (which is kind of my starting point anyway) or in the pulldown menus. I have it in my bookmark widget for handy reference, but I don't think everybody uses that.
- On the page for certain series (especially the Big Finish series) that prefixes refer to, a note somewhere on what the prefix for that series is. This would address Omnius's issue of the utility of the prefixes, and help explain to newer users what they mean.

- Done. I've added it to the recent changes link set at the top of the recent changes page. Do you think it'd be useful to have in the 'Community' section on the side menus as well? --Tangerineduel 14:28, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I do. Someone looking for an explanation of prefixes that doesn't go to the help page might try to go to the forums to ask, and would hopefully see the link there. Monkey with a Gun 23:53, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
