Bill and Ted

Bill and Ted was a film which Deborah Castle took the Eighth Doctor to see sometime near the end of the 1980s. The Doctor was inspired by the "flying telephone box" in the film, wishing that he could have one of his own. (PROSE: Father Time)

Behind the scenes

There were actually two Bill and Ted films. The one that the Doctor refers to in Father Time is Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

As hinted at in Father Time, Bill and Ted's time machine has similarities with the Doctor's TARDIS. One 2015 issue of the comic series Bill and Ted's Most Triumphant Return mentions that extraterrestrials copied Bill and Ted's time machine, "albeit with with British phone booths" that they "found a way to make bigger on the inside".
