Jenkins was a pupil at Farringham School for Boys in 1913. (TV: The Family of Blood) He had a slight cold which had him visit the Matron, Joan Redfern, but she rather suspected that he was missing his mother more than anything else. A letter from his mother arrived that very morning, leaving him "a lot more chipper." Jenkins later participated in the defense of the school.
