By the end of the Seventh Doctor's travels with Roz Forrester, there was a possible version of the Doctor that was "alive and well and living in San Francisco with his wife." (PROSE: So Vile a Sin)
When the Eighth Doctor was shown some of the other possible versions of himself in the multiverse by Esterath, he saw himself married to Grace. This Doctor was still settling into a domestic life and was preparing a schedule for his first semester of teaching at a university.
