Hopeful was one of the colonists of the starship Erewhon who were awoken in advance and worked to terraform Gliese 581 D into a new human colony planet. After the first colonist died of natural causes, Hopeful was among the first to be killed by the Vardies along with her friend Sunshine for displaying grief. (TV: Smile)
