Kate was the best friend of Emma-Louise Cowell in 1953.

Shortly before Emma-Louise was sent through the Cardiff Rift on 18 December 1953 more than fifty years into the future, she and Kate went to see the film Calamity Jane in the cinema five times.

After her arrival, Emma-Louise was upset that she would never see Kate again. (TV: Out of Time)
