Captain Jack's vulnerability to suffocation and trauma

I think that Gray was wrong about the mechanisms of Jacks gift. When he accompanied the suicide in series 1, he was unaffected by the exhaust fumes and lack of oxygen in the garage- thus I don't think burial would hurt him, something he wisely kept quiet about at the time! He probably spent the next millennia in a state of deep meditation, possibly bordering on suspended animation (which might explain the lack of ageing).

He does suffer an awful lot of pain and trauma otherwise, and it is surprising that a former coward seems able to survive it. There are a few possible explanations-

- as a time agent, he is probably trained and tested in psychological techniques for resisting torture and dealing with the after-effects - If his people had modified their pheremones, they might have genetically engineered other useful traits, like pain resistence. Obviously he still reacts to it, but he might not feel it as deeply or react in the same way

- The gift/curse may preserve his psyche as well as his body, restoring any damage that would destroy him
