Leslie Bates

Leslie Bates had several uncredited roles in some of the first Doctor Who TV stories. Most notable of these was as the stand-in for Derek Newark as Za. It is Bates's shadow that is seen at the cliffhanger conclusions of both "The Pilot Episode" and Episode 1 of the transmitted version of "An Unearthly Child." Bates also had roles in Dixon of Dock Green and Z Cars, among others.
