The Nizam of Hyderabad was the local ruler of Hyderabad, who was answerable to the British. He had a harem. He assigned Rani Jhulka to be the personal bodyguard for his bride-to-be Khair-un-Nissa Kapoor. When Khair decided to run away with Rani and was strangled by a Thuggee in the attempt, he blamed Rani and sentenced her to death. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)
Behind the scenes
Although not clarified in the comic story, the Nizam of Hyderabad was a royal title, similar to "king" or "tsar". In other words, the Nizam of Hyderabad in the real world designated a position rather than a specific person.
