Fulton Mackay (12 August 1922-6 June 1987[1]) played Dr John Quinn in the Doctor Who television story Doctor Who and the Silurians. He was also considered for the role of the Fourth Doctor when Jon Pertwee left Doctor Who in 1974. (INFO: Doctor Who and the Silurians)

Born in Scotland, Mackay was a familiar face on British television, appearing in episodes of The Army Game, The Plane Makers, Out of the Unknown, Z-Cars, The Saint, Paul Temple, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Dad's Army, Crown Court and Lovejoy. He also played Det. Chief. Supt. Inman on Special Branch and the Captain on the UK version of Fraggle Rock, but will be best remembered as the stiff, no nonsense prison warden Mr Mackay on the sitcom Porridge, as well as its big screen version and the spin-off Going Straight.
