Much like the Iris Wildthyme audio story of the same name, "Midwinter Murders" appears to be a reference to the real world television series Midsomer Murders. The mention of Midwinter Murders in Enter Wildthyme does not appear to be a reference to that audio story, as the novel was published over a year before the audio story's release.
