Prisoner of war

Prisoner of war (POW) referred to individuals who were taken captive during an armed conflict. According to Troilus, to be a prisoner of war was considered "very bad form." (TV: The Myth Makers)

During the Trojan War, Steven Taylor noted that, by taking a uniform, he would be captured as a prisoner of war instead of a spy. Odysseus could not warn him of what exactly the Trojans did with their prisoners of war at the time as he observed that it depended on how they felt at the time. (TV: The Myth Makers)

In the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden in 1746, Ben Jackson protested in defence of Colin McLaren and Jamie McCrimmon when Algernon Ffinch gave the order to have them hanged, claiming them as prisoners of war. Ffinch, however, countered that, as rebels, they would not be treated as prisoners of war. Later, while on the Annabelle, Ben found that and the captured Jacobites being treated like a prisoner of war. It was from this that he realised that Trask intended for them to be sold for illegal slave labour. (TV: The Highlanders)

In 1974, Emma Grayling claimed that Alec Palmer had spent most of World War II as a POW. The Eleventh Doctor, however, was aware that the story was "a lie told by a very brave man involved in very secret operations." (TV: Hide)

Confronting humans Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Clyde Langer and Maria Jackson, Sontaran Commander Kaagh attempted to take them as prisoners of war. (TV: The Last Sontaran)
