January
- 1st January - The TARDIS departs Trafalgar Square, where it had arrived during the New Year's Eve celebrations ("The Daleks' Master Plan").
July
- 5th July - Ben Jackson begins a five month shore posting ("The War Machines)".
- 12th July - The TARDIS materializes in Fitzroy Square, London, near the newly completed Post Office Tower. The Doctor and Dodo visit the tower and are introduced to Professor Brett, his secretary Polly Wright, and Brett's computer, WOTAN, set to be fully activated in four days. WOTAN immediately begins to exert its control over Dodo ("The War Machines").
- 13th July - The Doctor becomes aware of WOTAN'S control over Dodo and cancels it out using hypnosis. Dodo is sent away to Sir Charles Summer's country home to recover, her travels with the Doctor ended ("The War Machines").
- 16th July - "C-Day" - the day scheduled for the full activation of WOTAN. WOTAN, however, is already active and using enslaved humans to build its army of War Machines ("The War Machines").
- 20th July - The Doctor defeats WOTAN'S plans for world domination by reprogramming one of the War Machines and sending to attack and destroy the super-computer. The Doctor soon departs, but only after Ben and Polly have boarded the TARDIS, on the pretense of returning the Doctor's spare key, which he had dropped earlier ("The War Machines").
