It actually seems unlikely that they have an appendage within the front protrusion on their helmet, at least not one in the shape of a circle, as there seems to be no way to get it into there.
The Voord - a race or a group?[[edit source]]
According to this article and the the story notes section of their debut episode, the Voord are refered to as a species. But I don't remember any hints towards this in the episode - from what I understood from the dialogue, the Voord are some sort of an order, similarly to the Silence (which was long thought to be an species although it was actually a religious order). Not to mention there's even an instance in the episode where it was mentioned that the Voord are wearing some sort of suits.
