Kiani was a student at the Time Lord Academy who specialised in Gallifreyan criminology. She wrote a dissertation on post-Shada Time Lord imprisonment and wanted to interview the Eleven for her thesis. The Eleven thought that she was to become an Inquisitor. Once the Eleven had escaped, Farina thought she aided him and she was held in Cell 5-γ-9.
The Eighth Doctor asked her to help locate Liv Chenka and to aid his investigations, as her research was useful to help them escape the prison wing and said that she reminded him of an old friend of his. The Eleven killed her before he stole a TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Eleven)
