The recasting furnace was a chamber in the Dalek City on Skaro used by the Daleks to rebuild their casings when damaged. The Black Dalek was taken to the furnace after being exposed to radioactive rust, as he was believed to be useful by the Dalek Emperor. (COMIC: Plague of Death)
