Andrew "Andy" Lofts was the first college boyfriend of Sarah Jane Smith; he was a year ahead of her at Liverpool University and had dreams of becoming a television journalist. The two were briefly engaged, but Sarah Jane broke it off when Andy, despite his nominal approval of women's lib, started asking for her to sacrifice her own career to help him with his own.
