Satsumas (also called tangerines) were a type of Earth citrus fruit. Sometimes called Christmas oranges, they were commonly found in Christmas stockings in Great Britain.

Uses of satsumas

Following his victory over the Sycorax leader in a sword fight in 2006, the Tenth Doctor found a satsuma in his pocket and threw it against a switch on the hull of the Sycorax vessel. The Sycorax leader, who, in violation of the rules of combat, was about to attack the Doctor from behind and kill him, had the hull under his feet open up. He fell thousands of feet to his death. (TV: The Christmas Invasion) This Satsuma was found in Brockley in early 2007 and stored in the Leamington Spa Lifeboat Museum. (GAME: Security Bot)

During an explanation on how wormholes work, the Eleventh Doctor used a satsuma to represent Earth, which he handed to Mae Callon. Later, as they were surrounded by Wanters, Mae threw the satsuma at the group, distracting a portion of them. (PROSE: Shroud of Sorrow)

According to a dream version of Santa Claus, tangerines were his signature gift. The Twelfth Doctor, on the other hand, claimed that, "no-one likes the tangerines". When Santa and his elves came to the rescue on the arctic base, the first thing to come in was a tangerine. After the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald resumed travelling with each other, a tangerine was left on Clara's windowsill. (TV: Last Christmas)

Behind the scenes

Satsumas are referenced in Attack of the Graske, a story this wiki does not consider to be a valid DWU source. In Attack of the Graske, a street urchin who was kidnapped by a Graske in 1883 said he was "saving up money for a satsuma".
