Hilda Schofield (AUDIO: Afterlife) was the mother of Cassandra Schofield and the grandmother of Hex, (AUDIO: Project: Destiny, etc.) whom she raised at 53 Gerard Street (AUDIO: Signs and Wonders) following Cassie's departure. (AUDIO: LIVE 34)

Hex believed her to be his mother until he was six. (AUDIO: Night Thoughts) She took Hex to the seaside every summer when he was a child. (AUDIO: World Apart) After his father, a dockworker, was made redundant following a strike, she told Hex to make sure he got a job that would always be in demand. (AUDIO: LIVE 34)

The Seventh Doctor came to visit Hilda to inform her of Hex's death. While she initially accused the Doctor of letting Hex die, she eventually grew to accept it. (AUDIO: Afterlife) Sally Morgan, who would later start a family with Hex, lived with Hilda for the next two years before Hilda passed away. (AUDIO: Signs and Wonders)
