In a parallel universe, Lee was Eric Vollmer's assistant in 2039. He was doing genetic research. Most of it involved cutting corners which he didn't truly care about. Vollmer thought that his experiments where unethical.

In contrast to Vollmer's opinion, Lee saw nothing wrong with his work. He believed his work justified the means, and even referenced the Nazi experiments carried out on human beings, which he said saved millions of lives in the future He felt his work would eventually fall into the same category - dangerous and highly unethical at first, but would yield great discoveries in genetics and human development.

But his work involved genetic experiments on human clones, some of them fully developed and others which were not.

When the military were interested in Lee's work, his research and experiments were already banned by several international treaties, and several other people had condemned his work and his views. By the time he was working with Vollmer, and Flint revealed the true nature of Lee's work behind closed doors, Lee had become sick and fed up of people like Vollmer who didn't understand his work, condemning it.

But the military's interest in Lee's work was because of the idea of having genetically engineered super-soldiers, so they set up the DEEP using Eric Vollmer's work on renewable energies as cover.

The Doctor killed him after Lee threatened him with a gun. (AUDIO: Full Fathom Five)
