A life-shell was a transport pod used by the Dellacoi. It shielded them from harsh environments, allowing them to both travel and survive without the use of a host body.

Leet's life-shell was an orb, roughly the size of a football, capable of regenerating and telepathically communicating with the Dellacoi.

Leet lost its life-shell after being "snatched away" by the time winds and crashing on Railway Street in Splott. Heavily damaged, the pod was picked up by Torchwood Three, where it became a pet project of Ianto Jones. It remained at the Torchwood Hub for three months, during which time it began to regenerate.

Search units were drawn towards the pod. In the proximity of units, such as Mildred, the pod made an unearthly musical warbling noise which gradually turned into a howling shriek of alarm. Coloured lights flickered from just beneath the surface of the pod in rapid but seemingly haphazard patterns. The pod had an opaque skin, through which a pulse-like glow emanated from deep within it.

Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones took the pod to St Helen's Hospital, where Oscar Phillips - the only survivor of the crash on Railway Street - lay in a coma. As the pod grew closer to Leet, its rate of regeneration increased and it pulsed brighter and brighter.

Jack and Ianto found themselves unable to reach the hospital, as it was surrounded by a horde of search units. Under attack, Jack put the life-shell into the pocket of his greatcoat and climbed onto the roof of the Torchwood SUV. The pair were saved by Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams, who lifted them to safely aboard a Coastguard helicopter. Jack's sntire body seemed to be pulsing with light from the pod beneath his greatcoat.
