Mertil was Anulf's second wife, and stepmother of Seksa. She didn't agree that Seksa was to become leader instead of herself. She mistook Turlough for a Taker, because of his red hair. She killed Seksa's mother in order to take control and shot Seksa after revealing this to her. (AUDIO: The Whispering Forest)
