Dalek Primes were a Dalek variant, holding a high rank in the hierarchy of the Dalek Empire. They were introduced at some point posterior to the Battle of Pejorica.
As demonstrated by one Dalek Prime who travelled back in time along the Doctor's timeline (and was eventually trapped in a time loop by several incarnations of the Doctor), Dalek Primes' advanced casings were capable of overriding command structures built into earlier types of Dalek casings, forcing them to obey whatever Dalek Prime managed to connect to their systems.
