Model village

A model village was a term used in the Victorian era to mean an ideal community. They were initially created in the 18th century by the landed gentry to provide good housing for the workers on their estates, and also to ensure that workers' cottages would no longer spoil views of the landscape. Examples of modern villages included Bournville, Port Sunlight, Blaise Hamlet and Sweetville. (PROSE: A History of Humankind)
The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald visited Sweetville in 1893 where they were captured and held prisoner. Winifred Gillyflower, the founder of Sweetville, wanted only perfect people to live in her perfect community. The pair had to be rescued by the Paternoster Gang. (TV: The Crimson Horror)
