Roaring Twenties

The Roaring Twenties was a title which was applied to the decade of the 1920s, acknowledged by the Tenth Doctor. (TV: Daleks in Manhattan) It was a time of wealth and excess in the USA. (PROSE: A History of Humankind) As the Doctor claimed, New York was a boom town during this time, (TV: Daleks in Manhattan) before the Wall Street Crash (PROSE: A History of Humankind) and Herbert Hoover took office as President of the United States in 1929. The period between 1918 and 1939, including the 1920s, was one of upheaval and change in Britain. The coal, textile and ship-building industries were already in decline, and steam power was being replaced by electricity. Having worked on the land and in factories during the war, women took a more prominent role in society. New leisure activities included the wireless, film and jazz. (PROSE: A History of Humankind)
