After my last attempt to create a list of deaths in the series, I took the objections raised into account and I created a new page which I hope meets the necessary standards.

First, I delt with the problems of speculation, by removing the sections about “Implied” deaths, as well as setting some clear standards about what constitutes an onscreen death. If there is any way they could be clearer, I am happy to hear suggestions.

I divided it up more thoroughly in order to avoid creating a page which is large and unwieldy. This time, it is divided into each Doctor’s era. In time, hopefully pages covering their Big Finnish and other expanded universe stories can be added.

Finally, to address the point that was raised about whether this would be of interest to anybody, I would like to point out there are entire websites and very popular Youtube channels dedicated to compiling body counts from film and TV. There are also plenty of trivia pages which will make references to the bloddiest Doctor Who stories so clearly this information is of interest to somebody, and of no particular harm to those who are not interested. For instance, there are many pages on the site which are of no interest to me. For example entire pages dedicated to characters who had a single line in one episode, which I would argue serve less purpose than this one. But I simply ignore them and read the pages that do interest me. After all, someone probably does want to read them, and it's no concern of mine. At the end of the day, we are just a collection of fans, compiling data which is largely worthless in the grand scheme of things, but which interests us and at least some of those who come to the site.

That is my case. If you still wish to delete this page, I will not object further, nor will I attempt to create a similar page again. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Josman Tickle (talk • contribs) .

You're quite right that "whether anybody would care" isn't really what's at stake here. The bigger problem is practicality. As was pointed out on the other talk page (Talk:List Of Deaths (Classic series)), a very foundational policy of this Wiki is T:NPOV: we don't give the TV special treatment over any other media. If we wanted to start creating "List of deaths in…"-type pages, we'd have no option but to do the same for every other era of every other series. And that would never drum up enough editor-engagement to be finished in any of our lifetimes.
And there are all the concerns about what "counts" as a death, besides. (Does Clara Oswald die in Face the Raven?)
That being said, if you're interested in compiling these data somewhere on the Wiki, I would suggest you create a sandbox (e.g. User:Josman Tickle/List of deaths) and create your lists there. You can link to such pages from off-Wiki if you want to, and it allows you to document all this with the full resources of Tardis's hyperlinks at your fingertips — but it's not part of the "official" encyclopedia area of Tardis, so there's no need for anybody else to muck in, or for it to follow criteria that make sense to anyone but yourself.
Many users keep such sandboxes to "list" this or that — I know User:Borisashton has a sandbox listing every instance of the Doctor being called "Dr. Who" in licensed media, broken down by whether it's the Doctor themselves, narration, another character, or titles. Things like that.

All of which being said… and while I do not mean this to in any way discourage User:Josman Tickle from contributing further to the Wiki in less "radical" ways… yeah, this page will have to be deleted too, sorry. Scrooge MacDuck 02:20, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thank you for the suggestion. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Josman Tickle (talk • contribs) .
