Professor Quandry was a "vexatious" Victorian academic to whom Rupert Von Thal was an assistant. He attended the Block Transfer Computation "séance" that the Fifth Doctor had arranged in Beatrice Mapp's large Bloomsbury home, sitting besides Brenda. He assumed that Nyssa was Mapp's maid and scolded her for telling him to have patience while waiting for the séance to start. Once the séance began, Quandry repeated the numbers "1110". Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In Paul Magrs' Brenda and Effie Mysteries novel The Bride That Time Forgot, "Quandry" is revealed to be a false identity used by Professor Cleavis during a trip to the 19th century on a mission from MIAOW using the Blithe Pinking Shears.
