The Mediasphere was a virtual environment built by the Vardans based on the community of fiction that evolves in the collective unconsciousness of intelligent beings. It was created using technology similar to that used to control the Land of Fiction. (PROSE: No Future) As such, it didn't obey the laws of physics, and could house Vardan spaceships. (AUDIO: The Vardan Invasion of Mirth)

Circa 1936, the Mediasphere was put in orbit around Saturn, set up to study the full wavelength spectrum of Earth after the Vardans learned about humans via their television and radio broadcasts. After nearly 20 years, in 1956, it was left abandoned after the First Doctor helped defeat the Vardans. (AUDIO: The Vardan Invasion of Mirth)

in 1976 with help from the Monk, the Vardans used the Mediasphere in an attempted invasion of Earth before being defeated by the Seventh Doctor. (PROSE: No Future)
