Peter Dickson's mother was a 'proper Victorian woman', and very superstitious. She believed that black cats were unlucky, especially if they had green eyes, as her husband, a sailor who drowned, saw one on the day that he left. She told her son this, although he didn't believe her. (PROSE: The Clockwise Man)
