A Extract of the Novel
“And so, with the hatch finally open, we descended to the lower levels. The technology here was decidedly more sophisticated, far in advance of the controls in the entrance hall some of which dated back to the Cybermen’s earliest dynasties.
The air became predictably but decidedly cooler as we found ourselves in a vast cavern beneath the city. And here we found them - the tombs of the Cybermen. The creatures themselves were perfectly preserved within a vast honeycomb of frozen cubicles. A moment unique in archaeology.
The Doctor spoke of their great evil being locked away for all eternity. Klieg compared them to bees awaiting the signal to arise from their winter sleep. Up to that moment, I had never wondered why Klieg and Kaftan should be so interested in financing my expedition. I assumed they shared my own enthusiasm for unearthing the mysteries of the past, my passion for discovery. I was soon to discover how naïve that assumption was.
But for the moment, I stared in awe at the frozen to be, proud to be the leader of an expedition that has made such a discovery - that had at last unearthed the secrets of the Cybermen. Just minutes later I was wishing I had never come to Telos…”
