Conjecture rename

In this case, renaming to Tara King would imply that Verdigris violates of rule 2 on T:VS, which is clearly not the case. So I think a rename would be wholly inappropriate here. Danochy ☎ 14:15, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Nah. Rule 2, in use, is reserved for DWU concepts; there are countless examples of Doctor Who stories using unlicensed, non-DWU concepts. If we were to invalidite every story for that reason, we'd end up with huge swathes of invalid stories, including television episodes like Mindwarp, which uses a presumably unlicensed Xenomorph, for example.

Besides, there is ample precedent for crossover characters' pages using the full characters names even if they're not stated within a source.

Right, you're correct, but the point still stands. We're not about to go around (indirectly) accusing a story of copyright violation - the character was thinly veiled for a reason. And this is different to a licensed crossover character. Any unlicensed "crossover" characters in the same predicament I would take similar issue with, regardless of a precedent. I'm sorry, Danochy, but while I can see your argument, I think that following your rationale would lead to changes to dozens, if not hundreds, of pages across the Wiki compared to the current practice. The (non-Marvel-owned) cameos in Party Animals not named on-page, alone…! Which, I think, makes this a T:BOUND issue — we can discuss the wider change, but until such a time as a consensus builds up in favour of making that change, then the Tara page should be treated like all the other ones. Fair enough. Although I wasn't referring to licensed cameo appearances such as those in Party Animals (a Marvel-produced story), I was referring to those intentionally kept vague in the story for licensing reasons and, to my knowledge, are usually named accordingly on the wiki as well. I realise you meant unlicensed cameos — but that is just it: as well as a bevy of Marvel-owned characters, Party Animals has a few of those, and in fact one of them happens to be John Steed. I don't believe that Marvel, at the time, had the rights to produce comics about The Avengers (er… those Avengers; obviously they own the other kind). They certainly didn't have the rights to Bart Simpson or Darth Vader, both of whom also appear in Party Animals, and both of whom we cover on those pages, not as Yellow boy (Party Animals) and Cyborg with the black helmet (Party Animals).
