Earl of Essex

Earl of Essex was a title in the British nobility, held by at least two people.

In 1559, the Earl of Essex attended the coronation dinner of Queen Elizabeth I, during which he started throwing drumsticks around. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark)

In 1601, Robert Devereaux, Earl of Essex rebelled against Queen Elizabeth; he was joined by Robert Catesby. (GAME: The Gunpowder Plot, AUDIO: The Hollow Crown)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Not mentioned in either source is the names of the the 1559 Earl, who was William Parr.
  • Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark only identifies the individual as "Essex"; however, in context his intended identity is clear.
