Bird of paradise

On an Earth-like planet, the First Doctor, John and Gillian carved and painted a wooden statue of a bird of paradise. He used it to trick a hostile native tribe into freeing the didus they had captured. The tribe, convinced that the bird could talk and was lucky, took it with them. (COMIC: The Didus Expedition)

Mynahs were a type of bird of paradise. (PROSE: Every Day)
