- With a decline in interest in Doctor Who, the BBC agreed to a promotion with Golden Wonder crisps. As well as mini-comics, the promotion included an offer on the 1987 calendar.
- A special printing on thinner card and paper was arranged but demand was greater than expected and ultimately surplus stock was bought from the American distributor.

- With a new Doctor Who logo, this calendar was in the larger A3 format with bigger illustrations. The cover design was done in London, with the rest being done by Andrew Skilleter.
- This calendar was dedicated to Ron Embleton, a good friend who had recently died. It saw the artist move from airbrush to acrylics.
