"Charlie" or "Charles Smith" was the Prince of Rhodia, and the last of his species, the Rhodians. Before the loss of his planet, he was heir to the throne, son of the King and Queen.

He was rescued by the Twelfth Doctor during a war with Shadow Kin, and taken to Coal Hill Academy in September 2016, posing as a 17-year-old human student from Sheffield alongside Miss Quill.

Charlie lived with Miss Quill and later Matteusz, at 1 Wellington Road, London, N1 0HR.

Biography

Early life

Born a prince on the planet Rhodia, the young Rhodian ruled over his people for several years with his mother. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) The prince's family never saw him as someone worth bothering combining with, instead, as a valuable piece of property to be used for the good of the country. (TV: Nightvisiting) Since the age of seven, he gave speeches to his people. His speechwriter was the person to whom he was closest. (TV: Detained)

At one point, the Rhodians went to war with their planet's other race, the Quill. The Quill's lead freedom fighter was enslaved to serve the prince and be his protector. When the Shadow Kin attacked, they killed every Rhodian and Quill, including the prince's mother. The prince and his servant were then rescued by the Twelfth Doctor, who took them to Coal Hill Academy.

Pretending to be from Sheffield, the prince took on the name "Charlie Smith", while his servant took on the name "Miss Quill" and posed as a teacher, while Charlie posed as a student in Year 12. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) He and Miss Quill lived in an apartment situated on the Central line of the London Underground. (PROSE: Joyride) Their address was seen in a report from the Governors as 1 Wellington Road, N1. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart)

Coal Hill Academy

He was asked out by April for the Autumn Prom but rejected her bluntly due to his unfamiliarity with social niceties, not realising it could come off as an insult as he hadn't explained why he was turning her down; fortunately, April realised he was attracted to boys when he later told her he wanted to ask out Matteusz. He noticed the burn marks on the corridor floor after Kevin Williams disappeared and deduced that they were from Miss Quill's gun. He prevented April from firing the gun (which would have killed her), causing her to share a heart with the Shadow Kin King, Corakinus.

Charlie asked Matteusz out for the prom and they attended it together. He wielded Miss Quill's gun when the legion of Shadow Kin attacked, but it was later destroyed. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)

He encountered a dragon monster that ate his head teacher, Mr Armitage, and saw the dragon pull Coach Dawson, who had the dragon's mate trapped inside his skin, through the rip in space-time. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

One Tuesday, Charlie, Tanya and April saw Amar Sai on the roof. They managed to prevent "joyrider" Viola Cummings, who was controlling Amar's body, from running a trial suicide at his expense.

Charlie was later attacked by April, Tanya and Matteusz, whose bodies were being controlled by "joyriders" Barry Taylor, James Banks and Steve Hopley respectively via stolen alien technology, after the founder of Joyriders Garry Fletcher learned that Charlie and Quill were aliens. When Banks threatened to cut Matteusz's throat, Charlie successfully pleaded with Miss Quill to submit to their demands. (PROSE: Joyride)

April asked him to dress up as Dracula for Halloween. He was locked in the men's room. When April called Matteusz but couldn't hear him, Charlie tracked his phone as they had the same account. He didn't like cellars and forced April to go find Matteusz in one while he went to find Quill. In the house, he was attacked by the Creeper. He realised that the symbols were star charts. He was determined to get Matteusz back when he was possessed. Charlie managed to get Matteusz out by altering the star chart, but this meant that the Creeper was stuck there. (AUDIO: The Creeper)

Some days later, Matteusz arrived at his home, having been thrown out by his parents for his relationship with Charlie. Charlie offered him residence, and the pair ended up having sex. When the Lankin arrived in his apartment, he caught a glimpse of them trying to form his parents but they failed.

Downstairs, Miss Quill ordered him to drive a screwdriver through the hand of her sister, which in actuality was part of the Lankin. The Lankin confessed to feeding off of Tanya Adeola before disintegrating. Charlie, Matteusz and Miss Quill rushed to Tanya's. They tried severing the smaller roots but they kept reforming. Charlie and Matteuz managed to sever some roots before Miss Quill destroyed the trunk with a double-decker bus. (TV: Nightvisiting)

He was a bit surprised that Tanya was going on a date. He later asked Tanya and Paul Sanchez around for dinner with the rest of them. Tanya asked him if he liked her and that if he only hung around with her because of what they experienced. He later told Paul that he wasn't human, and he knew what it was like to be alone. (AUDIO: Catfish)

Following Tanya's request, Charlie with the others went to check what was going on with an old stone house. There the female bone spider materialised his guilt for leaving his people behind and his fear that some of them were still alive. To investigate the matter further, he took the job of a nightwatchman in the house by faking his CV. On his first Nightwatch, while he was waiting for the other Coal Hill defenders upstairs, the female bone spider created his doppelganger loosely based on Charlie's dream. The doppelganger attacked Matteusz after his friends entered the house and turned into dust when Charlie touched it. Later that evening, Charlie and Matteusz were completely cocooned in spiderwebs by the bone spider. They were released by DC Carpenter. (PROSE: The Stone House)

He went to pick up his bag from the male changing room, and Matteusz followed him in there. Matteusz realising that they were alone, started to undress Charlie. At this point of they both heard a strange noise, and Charlie noticed that Matteusz couldn't stop talking. He called Quill for help. Upon meeting him again and saying "I Love You" he started talking in the same way that Matteusz was. Quill asked him questions about how he felt about her. He eventually tried to get the thing possessing him to answer him back. Matteusz got him to calm down by saying the same word over and over again, "Matteusz". He realised upon Quill's suggestion that the trigger phrase was I Love You. He tried to keep in back in him. Upon learning upon what it was, he was annoyed when Quill wanted to use Matteusz as bait. He took it back as he knew at some point he would no longer be Charlie and Quill would be affected. (AUDIO: Tell Me You Love Me)

He followed Quill to the school when she detected a burglar in the school. At the school he met with Ace shortly before a Dalek arrived. He fell through one of the cracks in time. He realised that he had travelled back in time and saw the remains of a Dalek. He met with the earlier version of Ace. He saw a Police Box and thought it was the TARDIS. He was chased through the school by several Daleks, and he concealed himself in a chemistry store cupboard. He made a material which blinded a Dalek. He found some anti-tank rockets and but he wasn't able to use it on a Dalek. He was rescued by Quill before he could be exterminated by the Daleks. (AUDIO: In Remembrance)

Ram and Matteusz were on a team playing bowling against April and Charlie. He accused Ram of cheating because of his leg. He noticed that something was wrong when the houses he was in contained Tudor houses. He asked Agen if she was an alien. They later realised that they were to be prey in a hunt. He realised that the true challenge was for them to survive, not to capture a flag. Charlie asked Matteusz to take the lead in the decisions as he was claustrophobic and started having a panic attack. He found the device that the Soer's used to create the ditch and used it to threaten Agen and Runthar. (AUDIO: The Soers' Ditch)

Quill often picked on Charlie in class, which his fellow students loved. He then chastised her back. He couldn't cook as it wasn't something he was allowed to do at work. Quill caught Charlie and Matteusz about to have sex, this cause Matteusz to wonder if they should move out. He didn't believe that Quill was seeing someone when Matteusz suggested it. He had found a psycho-spatial energy in the school, and with it he created a world absent of him to allow Quill to flourish. He told Matteusz about this and he was annoyed that Charlie didn't make Chris Packham or David Beckham. Charlie wondered if he should talk to him about his obsessions. (AUDIO: Sweet Nothings)

When Matteusz became intrigued about the ornate box in his bedroom, the Cabinet of Souls, Charlie showed him what it contained and explained the legends and fairy tales associated with it. He explained that it could be used as a weapon as the souls it contained, either to kill or to inhabit the enemy, and Matteusz didn't like this as its use would initiate a genocide. Because of this reaction Charlie ignored Matteusz's concerns about the killer petals. When Ram called Tanya after April started acting strangely, he witnessed April travelling to the Underneath. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart) He went to find Quill but he was taken with Quill and Dorothea Ames to their house in order for him to use the Cabinet of Souls to kill the killer petals. But his morals wouldn't let him as he didn't want to lose his last connection to Rhodia and lose himself in the process. Ames then took a gun and pointed it at Matteusz in order to use his love for Matteusz to persuade him to use the weapon. He started the arming procedure but was still hesitant. Before Charlie could set the target, April had used the Shadow Kin to kill the petals and Charlie disarmed the weapon. He then admitted to Matteusz that he didn't know what he would have chosen and that he had lost himself. Matteusz said he would help him find him again. (TV: Brave-ish Heart)

He didn't fully understand the need for mocks when forced to take a physics mock. After Charlie finished his mock, Quill took him to the toilets to tell him that she heard them talking about a story her sister told her. He wondered why the creature used Quill and not her, then theorised that he couldn't trust her as she couldn't be the real Quill. He realised that he was now the only one who could fully understand her. In the Cleaver's realm, he was forced to learn of the atrocities the Rhodians did to the Quill. He was tortured by what happened. (AUDIO: Mock)

Quill put him in detention with the rest of his friends to get him out of her way for her plans. Whilst in detention a meteor fell through one of the cracks and displaced the classroom into no-time, no-space. Realising that he was in a small room, his claustrophobia kicked in and caused a panic attack. Matteusz had to calm him down. He got worried after the Prisoner made Matteusz confess that he was scared of Charlie. After witnessing some of the effect the Prisoner on his friend he tried to escape the room, but discovered that he couldn't had had a panic attack. After noticing that the Prisoner had a different effect on him, he submitted to him and confessed his deepest secrets, that he loved Matteusz and that he wanted to use the Cabinet of Souls on the Shadow Kin. He also told Matteusz that it was due to Matteusz that he hadn't done it. This confession was enough to allow the Prisoner to die but the Prison needed a new prisoner and decided to take Charlie as he had the biggest guilt. Quill arrived in time and shot the meteor destroying it, but he was concerned as she shouldn't use a gun. She then admitted to him that she had her arn removed and that things were going to change. (TV: Detained) Quill immediately fainted in front of Charlie and Matteusz afterwards, and they realised she was heavily pregnant. (TV: The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did)

He took Quill back to their house and tried to care for her but wasn't sure if he was helping. (TV: The Lost)

He grew very concerned when Quill started to have a fever and wondered if he should take her to a hospital. (AUDIO: Queen of Rhodia)

Matteusz came back to talk to him after the fallout from the last time they had met, but Quill had woken up and demanded to know where her gun had been put. He then got a call from April telling him that Corakinus was back and had killed Ram's father, and went with Matteusz to April's house and found Corakinus threatening her mother. He managed to get Corakinus to go, but not before finding out that Matteusz was the fifth person to be killed in Corakinus' plans. He then went to find Ames to ask for help from the Governors, but they wouldn't help. After discovering that Tanya and Quill had moved the Cabinet of Souls to the school he got angry, but soon after, Corakinus came back and captured Matteusz, putting his scimitar to his throat. After April switched with Matteusz after she accepted to go back with him and uncovered that he planned to kill the human race, Charlie shot the pair of them and became King of the Shadow Kin. Charlie then armed the Cabinet of Souls and killed the Shadow Kin, knowing that he had already lost Matteusz by killing April. He hoped that the Cabinet would have killed him but he wasn't due to Quill knocking him out of the way. (TV: The Lost)

Personality

April described him as weird, saying he didn't know anything about pop culture. To her, he'd have to be either alien or Amish. Though he hadn't been on Earth for very long, Charlie had watched The Vampire Diaries; he found everyone on it very attractive. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)

Charlie was very cold on the matter of Miss Quill and what she deserved and did not like it when his friends questioned the morality of his culture. He advised Tanya Adeola to stay out of the matter of Miss Quill. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart)

He was heavily claustrophobic and suffered a panic attack when Miss Quill trapped him and his friends inside Class B3 for detention and the classroom was transported out of time and space. (TV: Detained)

Charlie was gay and dated Matteusz Andrzejewski. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)
