Major-General Scobie was an officer in the British Army.

Biography

Scobie had been posted to Burma during World War II and Singapore in the 1950s. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice) The Brigadier knew of him in 1969 and considered him a blowhard. (PROSE: The Showstoppers) Later, they would get on well: Scobie turned out to be a shy man who put up a rough military front to compensate. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion)

In the 1970s when he was in his mid-fifties, he was assigned as the liaison officer between UNIT and the regular army. This technically made him the Brigadier's superior officer and he needed his permission for things like raids. He tended towards supporting UNIT. (TV: Spearhead from Space, PROSE: Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion)

When the Nestene began landing, Scobie visited UNIT H.Q. for an update on the situation, and also managed to annoy Liz Shaw and embarrass the Brigadier with mild sexism. Afterwards he visited Auto Plastic to have a waxwork made of him for Madame Tussauds (TV: Spearhead from Space) which he was surprised about, but was tricked into thinking the company wanted a model of a simple, modest soldier. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion) The Nestene replaced him with this Auton duplicate to undermine UNIT's operations and placed the real Scobie in Madame Tussauds in a form of suspended animation. He was eventually freed when the Third Doctor short-circuited his duplicate. (TV: Spearhead from Space)

Later that year, Scobie had a budget meeting with the Brigadier and Sir John Sudbury. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice)

In October 1983, General Scobie attended a UNIT reunion party. (PROSE: Business Unusual)
