Sam was a firefighter in London, Earth. When the Hyperions attacked the East End in the summer of 2015, he was a first responder.

He sacrificed himself to help the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald defeat the Hyperions. (COMIC: The Hyperion Empire)
