Self wikifying[[edit source]]
Hi if you are the Russell McGee that has a page on this wiki, please note that Tardis:Valid sources states that authors, actors and other crew may not edit pages about themselves or their works. In addition, please note that Tardis:Username policy forbids the use of "sockpuppets".
We also have a rule against plagiarism; see Tardis:Plagiarism. Thanks Shambala108 ☎ 18:27, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- Re the recent edit on Russell McGee: You certainly haven't been following the rules up until now, and technically speaking, since you aren't Krohn, you're arguably still committing plagiarism, per T:DON'T COPY. But this looks on the surface like a reasonable edit, modulo concerns about conflicts of interest and overly florid prose. Najawin ☎ 06:37, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- Briefly adding my two cents in this: please, in the futre, add original content rather than "adapting from outside sources", however much you adapt it. As a Wiki, we mostly prefer to have original content. That said, I do have a small issue with the current setup of Russell McGee: beyond the (very briefs) two first paragraphs, the page turns from "DWU-related biography of the individual" into "extremely detailed biography of this person's career and background".
- But we're not Wikipedia, where all of that information would be surely suited. We, as a Doctor Who (and it's spin-offs) Wiki, are only in need of whatever is related to McGee's DWU career. Notice how even on high-profile pages like Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat we don't deviate too much to their career previous and post-Who. But anyway, that's more a concern for a {{cleanup}} template on that page. OncomingStorm12th ☎ 19:32, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Hello, OncomingStorm12th and Shambala108
RussellMcGee77 asked me to update the wiki entry after Najawin made the initial reversions to the wiki. Russell explained to me that in the past, he had been able to update the wiki entry on this site. The rules changed and in response to Najawin Russell followed the new rules and asked another user, myself, to revise the wiki on his behalf.
(https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Tardis:Don%27t_wikify_your_own_material) "...seek out other editors and inform them of the edit you wish performed..."
I also asked Nick Krohn, a long Doctor Who writing friend of Russell's as I am not a writer, to draft a new version of Russell's bio so that Najawin could not claim plagiarism. Now if you prefer, Nick also wrote a short bio that you could switch out but the main thing is that Russell wishes the emphasis to be on his Doctor Who writing. He has been writing far longer than sound designing. The Tardis Wiki can help Russell professionally as a writer as he continues to write stories for the Doctor Who Universe. Thus, why it is important to him that his professional writing experience and writing awards be listed on the site.
Here is the short bio:
"McGee is an award-winning writer, producer, director, and sound designer. He received a Master’s in TV / Film Production from Indiana University in 2013 after graduating from Indiana State University in 2001 with a Bachelor’s in Theatre with a minor in Creative Writing. He is currently the On-Air Promotions Producer for WTIU while also teaching Screenwriting and Sound Design at Indiana University. Over the years many of his Doctor Who short stories have been published, including a Subscriber Short Trip for Big Finish Productions, LTD, for whom he also works as a sound designer on their range of Doctor Who full-cast audio plays.
His accolades include: Regional Emmy Award nominations in 2019 and 2020 as a writer, a nine-time Telly Award winner as a writer and producer, and a 2021 Audie Award Finalist for “The Ernie Pyle Experiment”. At the 18th Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, he was nominated for Best Audio Adaptation and he won Best Vocal Direction at the 2019 Audio Verse Awards for his full-cast audio adaptation of “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein”. In 2019, 2020 and 2021 he won the Bronze Festival Favorite Award at the Hear Now Festival."
I am also not sure why Russell's date of birth keeps being removed from the wiki, when Russell's birth is a public record and freely available through IMDB.
Additionally, the headshot that was taken of Russell holding the Temporal Logbook II (A Doctor Who Anthology Charity Publication) keeps being removed, which was used as part of the publicity for SARAH JANE SMITH: ROVING REPORTER. The headshot has also been used in multiple online sites including THE BRANDON PETERS SHOW (https://thebrandonpetersshow.com/episode/daleks-invasion-earth-2150-a-d-with-russell-mcgee/) and on the National Audio Theater Festivals: (https://www.natf.org/about/).
I'd appreciate it and Russell would appreciate it, if someone were able to re-post his headshot and add his date of birth as part of the biographical information.
I hope this helps, we are not trying to create issues for you and are trying to follow the revised rules for the site.
Best
