Mark J Thompson wrote and directed Episode 8 of BBV Productions' The Time Travellers audio series in 1999. Later, he acted as a director and occasional producer for the first series of Big Finish Productions' The Companion Chronicles audio range for Big Finish Productions. He was also the producer of the Kaldor City audio story The Prisoner.

Beyond Doctor Who, he is best-known for producing Soldiers of Love between 1999 and 2005. This original audio drama series was of interest to Doctor Who fans for featuring many former Doctor Who actors including Nicholas Courtney, Sarah Sutton and Colin Baker.
