In 1572 Boscombe Hall was built on the former site of the Convent of the Little Sisters of St. Gudula at Boscombe. Earlier in the 16th century, Henry VIII of England had sealed the unhappy fate of the convent, headed by Cessair of Diplos posing as its Mother Superior, by conducting his so-called "Dissolution of the Monasteries" campaign.
