The exiled Homeworlder-turned-Crime Lady Cortalian was notorious in the Spiral Underworld for the race of Servitors she had created by manipulating the biodata of a species of multi-eyed swamp serpents who, unbeknownst to her, were actually descended from posthumans whose eggs had been displaced to a priomordial swamp by Faction Paradox. (PROSE: Daring Initiation)

The Servitors retained the multiple eyes and diamond-hard flesh of their single common ancestor, a bull of the serpent-like species, on whom Cortalian had merely started experimenting "to pass the time on a rainy evening", picking apart at its biodata to reveal forgotten possibilities. However, they were otherwise highly varied in appearance, suited to a variety of purposes; there were giant scorpions with bulbous eye clusters, bloated four-mouthed crabs and "writhing forms of tentacles and seven-fingered hands". The "security-forms," thought to be the best of the lot by Cortalian, had diamond-hard black armour for skin, the same sharp teeth as the original serpents, and inner organs that were "barbed and venomous, scraping on the inside of their new armour". (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice)

Cortalian was proud of her small army, which she often showed off whenever the Crime Lord High Council held open sessions. (PROSE: Daring Initiation) She brought her Servitors with her to Kratoam to help her set up the First Auction in Heaven, and, like everyone else who remained at the Auction by the time Apep attacked (save for those who made it out aboard Cortalian's timeship), they all seemed to exist, alongside the planet Kratoam itself, in the temporal tremours caused by Apep's death-throes. (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice)
