Jim Hardwicke was a human scientist who developed the Hardwicke Elixir, a drug which would reverse the ageing process. He was presented a Super Nobel Prize for his achievement, which came after fifteen years of work and enduring much ridicule from his colleagues. Days later, when one of the scientists who had taken the elixir mysteriously disappeared, the public blamed Jim for it and he was forced to go into protective custody, but he vanished as well. Both had been taken to Skaro by the Daleks, who wanted him to manufacture the elixir so that they could use it to render the people of Earth unconscious, thus allowing them to invade with no resistance. Jim instead supplied them with a weakened version of the elixir, which only lasted a few weeks, after which the people awoke and destroyed the invaders. Jim took some of the real elixir, preventing the Daleks from forcing him to make more. (PROSE: The Living Death)
