Adam Merchant
Professor Adam Merchant was a marine geologist and archaeologist.

Adam Merchant attended Heriot-Watt and met fellow student Jacqui McGee, whom he befriended. He became an archaeologist and worked mainly in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas, unearthing a three-thousand-year-old Egyptian shipwreck beneath the former. He later became a marine geologist.
In the 2010s, Merchant called Kate Stewart at Jacqui's suggestion after his team found the Arch off the west coast of Scotland. He offered to help analyse the Arch and accidentally passed through it to the Void World where he met the Eleven, who slipped him a toxin as part of his plan to acquire the artefact. When Josh Carter and his team of UNIT soldiers brought the two of them to Earth, the toxin activated and Merchant went onto the streets of Edinburgh after visiting Jacqui.
Merchant accidentally killed a taxi driver and was convinced by the Eleven that UNIT was his enemy. In return for the antitoxin, he helped kidnap Kate and killed a police officer on the Eleven's command, leading him to decide to throw himself and the Eleven out of UNIT's aeroplane. His body was recovered from the ocean, but the Eleven survived. (AUDIO: The Enemy Beyond)
